State Key Laboratory of Power Transmission Equipment and System Security was approved to be established by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2007. Based on the key laboratory of High Voltage and New Electrician Technology of Ministry of Education, integrated three provincial key laboratories of power transmission safety science and new electrician technology, high voltage technique and system information monitor, new electrician technology and one research center of Lightning Science and Protection Technology, the State Key Laboratory was examined and accepted into operation in April 2010, and assessed by the Ministry of Science and Technology in March 2013. Professor LI, Jian currently serves as the director of the Laboratory.
The Laboratory, focusing on national demands of energy development and major power projects, is guided by the cutting-edge development of the discipline and targets at the application of power transmission equipment and system security. Continuous exploration of theories, methods and new technologies of power transmission equipment and system security to improve the ability to cope complex climate, set up multifield coupled complex equipment, and research under AC-DC hybrid grid structure, the Key Laboratory provides theoretical and technical support for the safe and reliable operation of state grid.
Centering on the national medium-and long-term scientific and technological development plan, serving national " West-East electricity transmission project, mutual supply from north to South, national interconnection", smart grid construction project and new energy development strategy, the Laboratory addresses on basic theories and key techniques of power transmission equipment and system security, and is committed to build a national-level research platform and a communication center for academic talents at home and abroad.
