The School of Electrical Engineering (formerly known as the Department of Electrical Engineering) of Chongqing University was founded in 1935 and is one of the oldest and strongest colleges in Chongqing University, enjoying a high reputation both domestically and internationally. Over the past 90 years of education, under the guidance of older generations of educators and scientists such as Shui Xiheng, Feng Jian, Min Qijie, Wu Darong, Liu Yilun, Wang Jiqiang, Mao Henian, Jiang Zejia, Gu Leguan, and Sun Caixin, generation after generation of electrical professionals of Chongqing University have poured their true feelings and sweat into the education of our country, integrating wisdom and responsibility into talent cultivation and economic construction.

The college has three national research platforms: State Key Laboratory of Power Transmission Equipment & System Security and New Technology, the National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station of Hunan Xuefeng Mountain Energy Equipment Safety, and the Key Core Technology Integration Research Platform of Space Power Conversion and Wireless Transmission of the Ministry of Education. The college has A national key first-level discipline of "Electrical Engineering", which ranked 5th in both the 2006 and 2012 national subject assessments, and was rated A- in the fourth round of subject assessments of the Degree Center in 2017. In 2017, it was selected into the national "double first-class" construction discipline list, and in 2022, it will enter a new round of "double first-class" discipline construction list.

Electrical Engineering and Automation is the only undergraduate major in the School of Electrical Engineering, Chongqing University. It was named as the national characteristic specialty construction in 2007 and became pilot Excellent Engineer Training Program of the Ministry of Education in 2011. In 2020, it was approved as a national first-class professional construction site and passed the engineering education professional certification in 2021.

The college has a comprehensive system for graduate education and leads the construction task of the national Excellent Engineering Doctoral and Master's Education System in the field of smart energy (one of 18 key areas nationwide). Guided by the forefront of electrical engineering discipline development and the significant national demand for electric power and energy, it strives to build an excellent graduate education system, continually deepening the integration of industry and education as well as science and education.

The college possesses four national-level teaching platforms, including the National Engineering Electrical and Electronic Basic Course Teaching Base, the National Electrical and Electronic Basic Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, the Energy and Power Electrical Virtual Simulation Experiment Teaching Center, and the National Energy Storage Technology Production-Education Integration Innovation Platform. The college has nurtured a large number of outstanding talents, including 6 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, such as Yang Shizhong, Sun Caixin, Li Wenyuan and so on, one National Excellent Engineer, two National Model Workers, more than 20 highly cited scholars of Elsevier in China and the world's top 2% scientists, 5 national outstanding young people and. In the past five years, one student has been honored as one of the "Top 100 Graduate Party Members" nationwide. Moreover, students have won over 20 special awards and gold medals in national innovation and entrepreneurship competitions such as the China International University Student Innovation Competition, the China International "Internet Plus" University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and the "Challenge Cup" National College Students Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition. They are widely employed by power grid companies, power generation groups, power equipment manufacturing enterprises, defense enterprises, research institutes, and government agencies, among others.

College sets training outstanding teachers as the goal, persists in deepening the implementation of the development strategy of strengthening the school with talents. The scale of the teaching staff has steadily expanded. The national team and talent cultivation have achieved remarkable results, and young reserve talents have grown rapidly.

There are 199 teaching staff members, including 147 full-time teachers (74 professors), 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 21 national landmark talents, 7 international renowned scholars, and 22 provincial and ministerial level talents. It has a national electrical and electronic basic course teaching team, a national Natural Science Foundation innovation research group on "Safety Theory and Technology of High Voltage Transmission and Distribution Equipment", and a national university Huang Danian teacher team on "Power Grid Equipment Safety and Natural disaster Prevention".

In recent years, the college has focused on the national "dual carbon" strategy objectives and the country's needs for energy development and the construction of new power systems. It has undertaken over 200 projects, including the "973" Program, key research and development projects, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Innovation Group Fund projects. The research outcomes have served major national projects such as "West-East Power Transmission" and the "Qinghai-Tibet Railway," providing fundamental theories and key technological support for the construction of the next-generation energy and power systems. The college has led the way in winning three national-level science and technology awards, 12 awards from the Ministry of Education for scientific and technological achievements, and 22 provincial-level science and technology achievement awards.

The college possesses three national-level research platforms: State Key Laboratory of Power Transmission Equipment Technology, Xuefeng Mountain Energy Equipment Safety National Observation and Research Station, and the Ministry of Education's Key Core Technology Integration Platform for Space Electric Energy Transformation and Wireless Transmission. These facilities formed a world-class research base. The college is fully committed to enhancing its innovation system by conducting organized research activities, focusing on improving its independent innovation capabilities. Collaborative research centers have been jointly established with leading companies such as State Grid, Southern Power Grid, China Electrical Equipment Group, and Dongfang Electric Corporation, pooling superior resources for innovative research cooperation and integration of industry, education, and research.

The college has established an international exchange base, represented by the Innovation and Intelligence Base for State Key Laboratory of Power Transmission Equipment & System Security and New Technology. It has established close cooperation relationships and normalized academic research exchange mechanisms with internationally renowned universities such as the University of Warwick in the UK, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Kyoto University in Japan, and McGill University in Canada. It has four international cooperation research platforms, including atmospheric structure icing and anti icing research platform, reliability assessment of large power grids research platform, reliability of renewable energy conversion systems research platform, and intelligent information processing research platform, creating a good international cooperation environment for the college to build high-level scientific research platforms and key disciplines.

The college vigorously promotes multi-level joint education programs and has established international cooperation programs covering doctor, master, and undergraduate levels of talent cultivation. The cooperating schools include the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, the University of Oxford, the University of California, Berkeley in the United States, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, the National University of Singapore, Kyoto University in Japan, and others.


The college adheres to the fine tradition of "hard work and rigorous academic research" of electrical professionals for 90 years, and support the high-quality development of the discipline in all aspects and whole process.

College is awarded as an advanced collective in the national education system and build disciplinary historical and cultural project, namely a book on the development history of the discipline "Footprints", an original play on teacher ethics theme "Guanghua", and a "Xuefengshan Education Base" that inherits hard work and excellent style.
