Established in 1936, “Electrical Engineerings” is a “211 and 985 National Level Program with Distinctive Features” .Within a span of 70 years’ establishment and development, it proves to possess sound academic foundation and powerful comprehensive abilities. In 1981,Electrical theory and New technology at first became the Doctorate Authorization of Second-Level Discipline.In 1991,Post-doctoral Research Center of “Electrical Engineering” established, followed by the year of 1998 when “Electrical engineering”gained the Doctorate Authorization of First-Level Discipline. In 2002, Electrical theory and New technology became State Key Discipline (Level 1).In 2007, High voltage and insulation technology was approved to become State Key Discipline and “Electrical engineering” equally was referred as State Key Discipline.
Based on this discipline, Key Laboratory on High-voltage Power and Electrical New Technology was established in 2000. With this basis, it integrated three key laboratories in Chongqing including new technology of power transmission and transformation of safe science and electrical engineering, high voltage technology and systematical monitoring information, and new electrician technology, as well as western science and lightning protection technology research center. In 2007, national key laboratory “Power Transmission and Distribution Equipment and Systematic Security and New technology”was successfully declared. In addition, the college has one special teaching bases for national engineering electrical and electronic courses, one national basic experiment teaching demonstration construction center and one national distinctive features establishment.
During the period of "11th five-year plan", we have applied for 72 invention patents, which have the 23 special rights ; We have18 applications for utility model patents, which have 7 rights; We have published more than 2150 thesis, which have 101 SCI retrieval, more than 600 EI retrieval , and more than 1400 papers of other high levels.we have won 1 second prize of national science and technology progress, 4 first prize,7 second prize and 5 third prize in the science and technology achievements.
We have undertaken all kinds of research 437 (176 longitudinal) projects. Among them, the national key basic research development program presided over by chief scientist units (973 program) had 1 item project (taking four subjects);We have undertaken the a pre-study and 2 topic items of national key basic research development program (973 program), 3 key projects of national natural science foundation, 1 item of national science funding for outstanding youth , 3 of 863 national the sub-projects , 7 national science and technology supporting plan key (major) projects , 35 national natural science foundation projects,1 item of special group innovation fund on national natural science foundation ,7 ministry education support planning on the new century excellent talents , 106 projects of ministries, provinces and cities , and seven international cooperation project.

It commonly takes 2 ~ 3 years for an academic master to finish his study. In principle, course learning takes 1 year and dissertation takes no less than 1 year.
4. Cultivating methods
Academic training supervisor shall assume overall responsibility for the postgraduates, and it also can implement team responsibility system guided by a mentor with given priority. Mentor (group) shows full concerns to the growth of the master, both in teaching and educating. Mentor shall be responsible for daily management, study style and moral education of the academic graduate student, formulating and adjusting the training plan of master graduate student as well as organizing the opening of the scientific research and dissertation, etc. During the cultivating process, we should not only fulfill the guiding function of the teacher (group), but also pay special attention to the master’s self-study, independent working and the cultivation of innovation ability.
Credit system is applied in postgraduate course. All the required credit should be got before applying for replying.
5. Credit Requirements and Curriculum
The total credits for students to graduate should be no less than 28 points, including more than 17 credits on required courses, more than 10 credits on selective courses (encouraging taking one professional level disciplines across first-level courses). Degree required process like opening report, academic reports and professional experiment each has 1 credit.
6. Requirements for scientific research and dissertation
After the completion of compulsory credits, students must carry out profound scientific research work, including literature reading, topic selection, theoretical analysis in a certain depth, computer programming and (or) experiment, skillful application of large commercial software, the master of numerical analysis method, analysis and solution on engineering problem, participation in research projects and independent accomplishment of report for a certain amount of scientific research. Finally, students should write thesis according to the requirements of the dissertation.
Dissertation should have systematic ideas and plan, reflecting the research process and methods of systematic science, with certain independent opinions, academic exploration as well as application value for certain scientific pioneer and important engineering projects. Dissertation should have bountiful works and a clear and credible research conclusion. Dissertation should conform to the rules of science and technical literature, with good organizations and logic, accurate words, and correct foreign language.
7. References and related important academic journals
1). The main references
design about xx
……
2). Important academic journals

8. Major course requirements and course catalog for postgraduates who choose across the first-level discipline (determined by the School )
1) Postgraduate students who choose across first-level discipline should determine 1-3 major curriculums of the undergraduate subjects under the guidance of a mentor. Repair courses take no credits and examination results should be truthfully recorded.
2) Course Title
……
9. The review and reply of the thesis
1). After finishing the dissertation for master's degree, students should also meet the requirements of the Rules of Published Academic Papers during the Period of Study for a Master's and Doctoral Degree in Electrical Engineering College of Chongqing University. Then students are allowed to apply for advance defense, defense and other follow-up issues;
2). Dissertation defense should be uniformly organized each department in advance 1 month, so that students can further modify and improve the dissertation according to the opinions and suggestions .After the preliminary reply, students will modify and improve the earnest revision of the paper according to opinions and suggestions from defense committee. Then the modified paper can be submitted after getting the consent by the tutor and chairman’s preliminary reply.
3). According to the research of the dissertation, we have hired two experts engaged in the work of related research or technology (including one expert outside) to blindly review the submitted dissertation. Meanwhile, it gives reviewer more than 20 days to review the paper.
4). College graduate office will decide whether organize defense according to the paper review opinions, and then organize defense committee .The dissertation committee composes of 5 to 7 experts with higher vocational title. Among them, there are no fewer than three experts with higher vocational titles and above. The committee will vote by secret ballots to decide whether to grant the master's degree or not, and if more than two-thirds of all the members of the defense committee consent, students may get through the dissertation defense. After the defense resolution is examined and signed by the chairman of the dissertation committee, relevant materials will be submitted together to the committee of academic degree evaluation to review;
5). Postgraduates in general cannot delay the reply. The students who need additional time should apply for the postponed reply report to the dean 3 months before the implementation plan. With the approval of the dean and graduate department, the reply can be delayed for 6 months at most.
10. Graduate and Degree Awarded
Students who get through the dissertation and get required credits will be allowed to graduate and grant graduation certificate; After scholastic academic degree evaluation committee review, the academic degree evaluation committee can grant a master's degree and give a diploma after the discussion.
